Zmor 2005 Dry Gewürztraminer Russian River Valley

Ask any wine geek who has been buying wine for more than 10 years: From 1985 to 1995, Daniel Moore’s ZMOORE winery was known as the preeminent New World benchmark in high-end, barrel-fermented, dry Gewürztraminer. The original winemaker for Martinelli Vineyards, Daniel worked with Martinelli’s exceptional Gewürztraminer vines to create wine for both the Martinelli family’s label as well as his own.

Then, in 1995, with a full-time job at another Russian River Valley winery (Lynmar), Daniel decided to focus exclusively on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for the time; he put ZMOORE on hold.

Daniel Moore and Jeff Morgan crushing 2006 pinot noirMost recently, Daniel has been making waves - great, big, pink ones, to be precise - with his dry rosé, SoloRosa, co-owned with Jeff Morgan. Now, the two winemakers will extend their partnership to include Zmor. The new spelling of "mor" represents Morgan’s participation.

Their first release from the 2005 vintage is made from the same Martinelli vines that prompted Daniel's original passion for this exotic varietal. The wine is fermented in barrels and is bone dry, capturing the essence of Russian River Valley terroir for this varietal.

Wine critic Robert Parker has called this Zmor "a breakthrough," and described it by saying: "It is good to find a California Gewürztraminer that actually tastes like Gewürztraminer." With our new 2006 vintage slated for release later this year, Zmor has set the stage for its own renaissance.
