Two Wines: “Roller Coaster” and Russian River Valley

This year, our second vintage, we have made two different Pinot Noirs, both crafted from Russian River Valley grapes grown at Martinelli and Saralee’s vineyards. Our two releases reflect the distinctive qualities found in both of our source vineyards. ZMOR “Roller Coaster” is made predominantly from grapes grown at Saralee’s Roller Coaster Vineyard, a small parcel that we control exclusively. The vineyard’s name evokes the steep, undulating terrain upon which the grapes are planted. They form the core of our highest quality wine.

Our non-designate Pinot is made mostly from grapes grown at the renowned Martinelli Vineyard, close to River Road. The balance of the wine comes from several blocks at the lower end of the Roller Coaster vineyard. We are also quite pleased with this wine, which offers our customers a more affordable entrée to the Russian River Valley.

2006 Vintage: The vintage was marked by a long, sunny but somewhat cool ending that allowed for excellent maturation on the vine. Our wines are made in open top fermenters, punched down twice daily and aged exclusively in French oak. They are not fined or filtered. Stylistically, we are looking for an expression of Pinot Noir that exemplifies the elegance we love in our favorite red Burgundies. This is made possible by the unique microclimates found in the Russian River Valley, where the combined solar and maritime influences provide conditions conducive to cool-climate viticulture.
